ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION EDUCATION

We realize that our environment is essential and thus we have put up an Environmental education sessions where by we rekindle peoples love of land to increase environmental consciousness among our youth and community to promote environmental ethics and thus protecting our natural resources.

The sessions/activities provide opportunity in the local communities to acquire knowledge of our natural and cultural heritage as it is critically important to ensure that the present and future generations embrace the conservation ethics. Some of the activities undertaken under this program planting trees in bid to rehabilitate/curb deforestation Other activities involved are cleanup exercises depending on the area volunteers are deployed for the work camp project, recycling, eco- tourism protecting green spaces (recreational facilities).

Global education is any effort you make to demystify the developing world in the mind of the people in your home country.

Development Volunteers Africa offers you this opportunity which primarily is intended to educate people in the western (developed) world about developing countries and counter some negative images of the third world portrayed by the media. If you are from developing country global education is still an effective way to share your experience and to build global understanding. As a D.V.A volunteer you will gain valuable insight from your experience on understanding development and the 3rd world countries, opportunities and challenges faced by the country placement. We encourage you to use this understanding to raise awareness of international development issues.

You may take part in advocacy campaign to help change some of the unfair international policies that affect the world poorest people by public speaking, slide show, letters to editor and curriculum development are all good examples of global education. Before returning home you might want to collect artifacts, photos and other items that represent your time in Kenya and this will assist your awareness raising activities on development, global justice and achieving policy change in developed countries where the main power lies.
