WORKCAMP PROGRAM SCHEDULE 2007

 

DVA/RCH/1/07 NAIROBI 13TH MARCH-3RD APRIL

 SOC   15V AGES 18AND UP FEE: ˆ 200

CAMP THEME: Children rights HOST COMMNITY: integrated/mixture of different ethnic groups in urban cultural setting.

WORK:  assisting in the day-to-day running of the orphanage i.e. cooking, teaching, and office administration.

ORIENTATION: 12th march

X:  possible visit to Nairobi national park/orphanage/museum.

P: Special training on making African jewelry, batiks, curving, pottery making, cultural safaris , African traditional dance classes as well as  Swahili classes.

 

DVA/MWG/2/07 NAIVASHA 13TH APRIL-4TH MAY 

 CON/MAN    25 V AGES 18AND UP   FEE:  ˆ 200

CAMP THEME: reproductive health issues

HOST COMMUNITY:  kikuyu. hospitable bigest tribe in kenya current persident comes from the kikuyu tribe.

WORK:secondary school construction, tree planting and environmental conservation efforts

ORIENTATION: 12TH APRIL

X: possible visit to Nakuru national park, hells gate /fisherman’s camp

P: Special training on making African jewelry, batiks, curving, pottery making, cultural safaris , African traditional dance classes as well as  Swahili classes

 

DVA/KKWG/4/07 KERICHO 13TH MAY-3RD JUNE 

CON/MAN   25V AGES 18 AND UP   FEE:  ˆ 200

CAMP THEME: youth and community involvement/ reproductive health issues

HOST COMMUNITY: same as above

WORK: painting/partition of the structure, fixing of the ceiling, lying of water pipes (doing all the final touches to the dispensary)

ORIENTATION: ON  12TH MAY

X: possible visit to lake Victoria

N: this will be a joint camp we will be working with several women groups in the area

CAMP THEME: women empowerment

HOST COMMUNITY: same as above

WORK: construction of water tanks, /teaching in a nearby schools, visiting of orphanages and doing community service.

ORIENTATION: 12TH AUGUST

X: possible visit to lake Nakuru National park, lake Naivasha,  and hells gate

N: this will be a joint camp we will be working with several women groups in the area.

DVA/NWG/6/07 NAROK 13TH AUGUST-3RD SEPTEMBER

CONS/MAN   20V AGES 18 AND UP FEE:  ˆ 200

CAMP THEME: women rights

HOST COMMUNITY: Masaai and Kikuyu,   Masaai globally known for their culture that is never lost (rich culture) the kikuyu generally farmers business people they form the largest tribe in Kenya.

WORK: construction of traditional masaai houses, bead making and weaving.

ORIENTATION: ON 12TH AUGUST

HOST COMMUNITY: kalenjin rich traditional culture 2nd republic president is from this community

WORK: construction of water tanks, making of access road and assisting in the farm

ORIENTATION: ON 12TH SEPTEMBER

WORK: Construction of water tanks and working in the farms

CAMP THEME: community involvement in tourism sector (eco tourism)

HOST COMMUNITY: Swahili hospitable people intermarried with the Arabs during slave trade, a mixture of different ethnic groups.

WORK: construction, sports oriented activities,, teaching in a nearby local school

X: visiting of touristic spots in the coast
